The Cave of Nerja (Malaga) will be offering a guided tour free of charge right through the winter season. The tour is offered daily at 1:00 AM, lead by the Nerja Cave Foundation’s staff members who will offer the guided tour in Castillian Spanish.
For other times and languages including English, French and German, audio guides can be purchased for just 2.50 euros. These tours will be available until March. Visiting hours have now been reduced by an hour, and they are from 10.00 to 1:00 PM in the morning and afternoon, and from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the evening.
In addition, the exclusive tours lead by Miguel Joven, from the TV series Verano Azul, will be available daily at 2:00 PM and 6:30 PM. These tours do require a reservation through the Foundation’s web page. They are different because of the special lights used, once the Cueva de Nerja is closed to the public, as reported in their statement.
Angel Ruiz, manager of the Caves said that “this new program will enhance the visitors experience when in the caves”. He also said that visitors would soon be able to attend an audiovisual presentation before transferring to the tour, “to improve the understanding of the meaning and importance of the Cuevas. This audiovisual presentation will include information on prehistoric art, which can not be seen in the tour, plus details of the caves’ formation and its history since its discovery, over 55 years ago”.
You can take a taxi or minibus from the center of Nerja to the caves in just over 5 minutes. Taxis can be obtained at the main taxi stand in Nerja.
