Nerja goes unmentioned in Andalucian tourist guide

12 January 2014
Nerja’s Town Council has asked the provincial tourist board to remove a tourist and cultural guide of Andalucia, edited by Turismo Andaluz, in which most of the neighboring towns cultural attractions are mentioned, such as Malaga, Frigiliana, Torrox and Almuñécar. However no reference is made regarding the area of Nerja or its emblematic enclaves such as the Cave of Nerja, Balcón de Europa and the Museum of Nerja’s History. Nerja’s Town Council requests the Board to withdraw a tour guide that does not transfer any attention to Nerja, whilst focusing on the Axarquia. The Town Council in a statement reported that the local governing board has approved a motion by Councilor for Tourism Development, Bernardo Pozuelo, to the Ministry of Tourism and Commerce, warning about this fact. He requests the “immediate withdrawal” of the brochure from promotion and dissemination venues, and also requests the inclusion of Nerja and its cave in the information leaflet.
Pozuelo has asked for the guide not be distributed in the next edition of the International Tourism Fair in Madrid (Fitur), considering that the publication “shows little technical rigor”. However, he pointed out that this omission “should not be presupposed to have a bad political purpose, as it could also be supposed.” Finally, the mayor has said that the booklet, as it is published today, “not only harms Nerja, but harms the image of the publication itself, since the Councilor for Tourism and Trade, Rafael Rodríguez, is a native of the Axarquia. “
