Coastal Demarcation has begun works to recover El Playazo Beach in Nerja following complaints lodged with the Ministry and the Office of the Ombudsman by land owners in the area, due to the excessive influx of traffic in the area. This area is public domain shoreline, and motorized traffic is forbidden to transfer along this stretch.
According to Nieves Atencio, Councilor for Beaches, this measure will affect about 200 meters of road, from Rio Seco to the parking lot that was opened last summer. “However, traffic passengers will be allowed on the rest of the road, the parking lots will remain open and the land parcels that might be affected by this measure will still be able to be accessed by vehicles from national highway 340”.
Finally, Atencio stressed that the construction job started by the Coastal Authority complies with the law and answers the complaints of the local community which was affected by the unlawful actions of certain motorists.
