The town of Nerja has started a brand new cultural association. The new theater group appropriately called “Balcón de Europa” will start meeting in the Sala La Fábrica, from October 15th. Juan Salvador Gómez will lead this new group; Juan Salvador has been the director of María Zambrano’s theater company for over twenty years now. Juan explained during a press conference that the new group would have two main lines of action: one will be to stage plays of its own creation and the second, a teaching function, by creating a lively theater workshop.
The workshop will be open to anyone sixteen years old and up who wishes to start learning about dramatic art or to those who might already have had some theater experience. Rocio Delgado, actress from Nerja will head this theater workshop. She has worked for Atalaya, one of the most important companies in Spain, in their actor’s lab. According to Juan Salvador Gómez “she has acquired a great deal of experience in the field of play-acting while working with Atalaya”.
Gómez said that the workshop will end with the staging of a play in Centro Cultural Villa de Nerja. The workshop participants showing most talent will be able to become members of the Theater Company, which also will stage plays in Nerja’s Auditorium. The first meeting will take place on Monday, October 15th, at 7:00 PM in the Sala La Fábrica. Anyone interested can sign up at Centro Cultural Villa de Nerja. Gema Garcia, councilor for Education and Culture has encouraged those interested in theater to get in touch with the association, as well as indicating that this new project fills a significant gap in Nerja’s cultural scope.
Nerja Taxis wishes the new group all the best for the future!
