Nerja’s Town Council and School of Industrial Organization have presented an agreement during the International Tourism Fair. This agreement will allow to develop a strategic plan to transfer confidence to investors and spurt further tourism growth in Nerja (Malaga).
Jose Alberto Armijo, Nerja’s mayor along with the general manager of the SIO, Fernando Bayón, presented the agreement that will mean “an important step towards a more dynamic form of tourism in Nerja” according to Nieves Atencia, councilwoman for Tourism. Their objective is to give a solid boost to innovation and competitiveness of small and medium size enterprises in the tourism sector in Nerja in order to reduce the real problem of seasonal tourism in hotel occupancy. In order to do so, after having analyzed the problem and having developed a diagnosis, specific actions to make boost tourism in Nerja will be encouraged.
They will develop consulting services and mobile apps that support SMEs in the tourism sector in Nerja. Armijo, meanwhile, has pointed out the “important role” of innovation and technology to strengthen the town as a “well-known and sought after tourist destination, thanks to a differentiated model”. Bayón has emphasized that the importance the project centers as a vehicle to support small businesses and tourism. In addition, both administrations have pledged to develop an action plan to boost retail for small businesses. This plan will examine the opportunities to transfer confidence to new investors to complete and promote business and trade in the town.
Consulting services with SMEs in the sector will be held. This project’s aim is to achieve the revitalization and improvement of the competitiveness of small retail companies in the Nerja municipality, he added. He also said that both projects would require an inversion of not far off 1 million euros.
