10 February 2014
José Alberto Armijo, Nerja’s town mayor  has announced that the Local Council has approved the improvement and expansion of public street lights of Calahonda Beach and the surrounding areas of Balcón de Europa, as well as the ornamental illumination of the beaches of Calahonda, Chorrillo and El Salon’s cliffs.
Regarding streetlights, LED lights will be installed, as they transfer more light and are more economical, as well as ground spotlights that will shine on the walls of Balcón de Europa. Regarding ornamental illumination, conventional and LED spotlights will be installed between the cliffs, located on either side of the lookout.
The budget agreed is 89.664,93 euros, paid by the Provincial Council of Malaga. A transfer for the whole amount has already been made to the Nerja town hall. The project will be completed within three months’ time. José Alberto Armijo pointed out that this project would improve the tourism image of Nerja, especially Balcón de Europa and surrounding areas and transfer confidence to those out walking in the early hours of the morning.
