According to Nerja’s city council, the British broadcasting network BBC has chosen some of the locations in the town where Verano Azul was filmed as the location to film an episode of Woolly and Tig during the first days of August. Woolly and Tig is a children’s TV show starring a five-year-old girl and her close friend, a toy spider.
In this episode of the series from Tattie Moon Production, titled Hola, our most recognizable greeting, Tig visits el Balcón de Europa, Calahonda’s beaches and the restaurant of Ayo, a landmark that became popular because of the legendary Spanish children’s series, Verano Azul, filmed during the 80’s. A local dance academy in Nerja and the local School of Music and Dance have taken part in some of the recorded scenes.
The five minute long TV show explores children’s feelings when they face new experiences and shows their moments of fear and anxiety, like the first day of kindergarten. This episode is focused in the little girl’s reactions when she has to face new experiences in Spain, like discovering new flavors when tasting Spanish cuisine, playing with local children who didn’t speak English and her reactions to a totally different culture.
The BBC program is a family show made for families. Colin McCredie, who plays Tig’s dad in the show, is Betsie McCredie’s real life father, and Tig’s fictional mum in the series is Jenny Ryan, her real life aunt. Massie McCredie, the show’s narrator is Betsie’s older sister.
However, the show’s biggest star (not related to Betsie’s family), is the toy spider, Woolly. This unique little pet has traveled to Nerja to record several scenes for the show that will be digitally animated later on. Nerja Taxis had a part in the transportation.
