More recently though, film crews have been pouring into the Nerja area from all over the place, from Germany to Japan. In fact, Nerja was used as a shooting location 12 times in the year 2012.
The most recent crew to descend on Nerja has been filming a movie based on the novel “All Inclusive” by the Director Dorris Dorrie (German). The film is all about a German family who return to Spain after having visited for the very first time in the 70’s. Although the opening scenes are actually set in Torremolinos, the director chose to use the rocks around Calahonda beach to portray the 70’s hippy commune.
The director roped in a large group of “travellers” who were in Nerja at the time, along with some other locals, in order to portray a “hippy camp”. They were watched by many fascinated holiday makers in Nerja at the time. The Balcon de Europa area was filled with vehicles and taxis who had brought the whole crew along with all of their equipment.
